The Situation
The non-stop chit-chatting mind is a product of many causes. In summary, under this mind is a field full of negative tendencies and misdeeds, with very little positive tendencies. This means we lack merit.
Ordinarily, we say, for most of the day, for many years, we have become used to negative deeds like jealousy, envy, comparing, feeling bitter, wanting to better than others (competition) and so on.
The Long-term Solution
The non-stop chattering mind is a small problem. The greater problem is a lack of merit. In other words, there is a lot of negative deeds, or non-virtue in one’s mind.
This does not mean killing, stealing or some serious crimes. This can also mean that we have a lot of attachments and desires, or worries and anger inside.
How to earn merit? Do more virtue! We can recite mantras, we can read Sutras, we can offer flowers to the Buddha, we can do so many kinds of meritorious activities. We can support the temple and talk to monks more often. Think of the Triple Gems more!
