On the power of making aspirations
by Khenpo Tashi
There was this master, Changkya Rolpe Dorje (Tib: lcang skya rol pai rdo rje). (Around 18th Century). He was a very wise master born blind. He couldn’t read the texts with his eyes, but he could read the books and texts using the tip of his fingers. So, that’s how he studied and mastered the Buddha’s teachings.
Then, he gave lots of teachings to many disciples. It is said that he was the teacher to the Chinese Emperor.
How did that come about? It is said that in one of his past lives, he was studying in his small room. At that time, he wrote a praise to the Buddha’s body, saying,
“Wow, the Buddha’s wisdom body is unfathomable. In each of the Buddha’s pores are found millions of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and pure realms.
“How marvelous is that body of the Buddha! I bow down to the Buddha’s wisdom body.“
As for the blindness, he did a non-virtue in the past, which ripened to being born blind in that present life. But because of that praise he wrote, in that present life, his body made up for his blindness, making him read the Buddha’s teachings using his fingers.
So, making aspiration is very great. Don’t look down on it.
